Future Perfect and Future Perfect Continuous Exercises.

Lesson Notes:

This is really difficult to teach for the first time because you think you understand it until the students start asking questions. It also doesnt help when the rules in the book are general and the gap fill exercises they give are full or exceptions and it-depends-on-the-context type examples. Let that be a lesson to myself ... always know your material before you start using it otherwise you end up being bombarded with questions you can't answer... the only text books that I really can trust in without checking first are English File (layout is sometimes confusing) and Cutting Edge - the grammar analysis always leads them down the right path.

Future Perfect: Finished action in the future.
Will + have + past participle

e.g By November 2007 I will have had a baby. (the baby will be born in October)

Future Perfect Continuous: To talk about how long an action will have been in progress at a certain date in the future.
Will + have been + -ing

e.g. By July 2008 I will have been living here for 3 years.
e.g. By Thursday you will have been studying at Merit School for 9 days.

*Verbs that hardly ever form a continuous form:

We never say “will have been being” – we say “will have been” even if it will not be a finished action. e.g. I will have been on this planet for 28 years by my next birthday.
